“In my opinion, the Mason & Hamlin is a real work of art.”

Maurice Ravel

“Among all pianos, none compares with the Mason & Hamlin in beauty and grace of tone.”

Yehudi Menuhin

Mason & Hamlin, founded in 1854 is one of the oldest, most respected names in piano manufacturing. Steeped in piano tradition, Mason & Hamlins are made as they have been for over a century-by hand, with the finest quality parts, by craftsmen skilled in the art of piano making. The Mason & Hamlin's legendary tone, majestic and warm with an enormous dynamic range, is a result of the strongest and most costly construction in the industry. Their massive rim design (18-ply of hard rock maple over 4" thick), full perimeter cast iron plates (for added stability), oversized eastern white spruce soundboards (for improved tone) and heavier legs-all combine to make a superior instrument.

Already the most over-engineered piano in the world-outweighing other makes by at least 20%-Mason & Hamlin creates longevity in their soundboards by installing the tension resonator. This exclusive patented device (radial arms of inflexible steel, joined underneath the soundboard, bolted to the piano's inner rim) maintains the soundboard's crown in its original shape, regardless of age or climatic conditions. This gives surety that the piano's beautiful tone can be enjoyed for generations.

Mason & Hamlin's wide tonal palette (a massive rich bass, clean lyrical warm mid-range, and bell-like clear treble) is supported and enhanced by its exclusive action. The Mason & Hamlin action is constructed of the finest hand selected hardwood, giving uniformity to the more than 7,000 working parts. It provides the ultimate touch, with repetition, speed, sensitivity, and response giving the pianist total control over the instruments enormous dynamic range.

Precise long lasting tuning stability is attained with the Mason & Hamlin hard wood pinblock. Made of 7 layers of quarter-sawn rock maple at a 90-degree grain angle on each layer, the wood has been treated to correct moisture content and meticulously fitted.

The feeling of complete confidence in the way a Mason & Hamlin piano is built is only exceeded by the joy of playing and hearing one. To experience these astonishing instruments please come visit us at Piano Craft.
